Scarlet Wines began life in 2009 as a wine shop, deli and cafe based at the Old Forge in Lelant near St Ives. It stayed like that for ten years, but during that time we found an increasing demand for our wine from shops, pubs and other restaurants.

In 2019 we took the decision to focus solely on wine delivery and let our friends Mike and Becky take over the running of the restaurant. The Old Forge they created has been a huge success and they offer excellent breakfast lunch and dinners, click here for their website.

Since 2019 our focus on delivery has allowed Scarlet Wines to grow still further. Sustainability is central to our thinking and in the Summer of 2020 we took delivery of our first cargo bike and an electric van.  Both were a revelation: powerful, quiet and incredibly useful.

We have always tried to keep our operations in a tight geographic area, roughly corresponding to Penwith, but by 2025 we felt it was time to expand again and with Alex already living in Falmouth our thoughts naturally turned that way.

We began a home delivery service for Falmouth and Penryn during Spring 2025.  The response was fantastic and we immediately felt that Falmouth would work well for us.  We tentatively began to look for a shop to rent coming across 40 Arwenack St in the middle of Summer 25.

It felt like the perfect spot for us and we kept everything crossed while we applied for a licence and took on the lease.  Mia joined the family team in October and a few weeks and a lot of plywood later we were ready to open our Falmouth wine bar on 7th November 25.
