While planing our new Falmouth and Penryn delivery service I started to think about the Scarlet logo and branding. The 50’s looking Scarlet logo and the wine splodge red background was dreamt up nearly 15 years ago by a good friend Mark Foreman from St Ives, who was teaching illustration at Falmouth Uni at that time. 

Since then Scarlet has evolved a fair bit and the electric bike delivery service has come to be a central part of our identity.  So it felt like some sort of graphical update was needed to reflect who we have become.

I was having a pint in the Famous Barrel in Penryn - surely one of the best pubs in Cornwall - and I asked if anyone knew a graphics person.  The person I asked was Matt Zegg, and with brilliant inevitability he said he could probably do that sort of work.

We had a meeting about it, talked about a few ideas, and I immediately had the feeling we had a good understanding.  A few days later Matt showed me the ideas he had come up with.  They were spot on.

This is where our new mascot “Big Red” came from. We have two versions, and you can see him happily riding through St Ives or Falmouth.  He’s obviously full of wine and he looks pretty cheerful.  Perhaps we shouldn’t be promoting riding a bike in that condition but I reckon he represents us pretty well.

I would like to say a huge thank you to Matt for his creative work.  It hit exactly the right note and the whole process was super fast and efficient.  If you want any graphics work done I cannot recommend Matt enough.
