Enjoy a cold one this summer: Our pick of British beers & ciders
As well as a vast selection of wines, we also pride ourselves on offering an inspiring selection of lagers, ales and ciders, which are about as far removed from the shelves of your local supermarket as possible.
Along with our pick of brilliant brands from Europe, America and Australia, we also showcase several favourites from closer to home, starting with Cornwall of course…
The Cornish Crown Brewery: Small-batch brewery on the edge of Penzance. Josh Dunkley makes beers using natural spring water and the finest Marris Otter pale Malt. Whole hops are used to give the greatest aroma, and all the beer is casked straight from fermentation.
Look out for Porter & One Hop Grain.
St Ives Brewery: The St Ives Brewery began life in 2010 and now produces five real ales, the best-known of which is the popular Boilers.
Knill by Mouth is the latest offering. A 5% Pale ale set to take the real ale world by storm.
Driftwood Spas Brewery: This brewery, based at Trevaunance Cove, St Agnes, prides itself on crafting traditional British Ales with an elegant and sophisticated edge. They are particularly good when matched with food if you fancy an alternative to wine.
Bolsters Blood and Unexpected are our current favourites.
Black Flag Brewery: Another outstanding Cornish microbrewery, this time located on the North coast near Perranporth. All processes are carried out by hand, only the finest ingredients are used, and all the beers are unfiltered for maximum flavour.
You’ll currently find White Cross IPA and Fang Pale Ale on our shelves…
Polgoon: Polgoon Vineyard and Orchard on the edge of Penzance produces award-winning wines, ciders and juices. All apples are grown and pressed on-site.
Choose from Apple, Pear, Berry, ‘Cornish Gold’, and Mount’s Bay Scrumpy…
St Ives Cider: This family enterprise produces artisan ciders; David Berwick has a wine-making background which shows in the nice balance and food-friendly character he achieves.
Selection includes Smeatons, Clodgy, Bamaluz & Porth (all local orchards, places or events).
Secret Orchard Cider: Exmoor’s best kept secret, this cider is made in small batches from hand-picked apples, using 100% juice (no concentrate) and wild yeasts. It’s amazingly pure and refreshing. The dry recently won Silver at the British Cider Championships; no-mean-feet for two guys and a small manual press!
We stock Sweet and Dry, with Nettle Cider coming soon.
Hammerton Baron: A resurrected 19th Century London brewery, which is bringing modern brewing with global influences back to Islington.
Baron H Earl Grey Black IPA is a blend of hops, with Earl Grey leaf added to the fermentation.
Take your pick - and enjoy!
