Sunday Lunch Drinks

As this incredible Indian Summer draws to a close, we are once again offering Scarlet Sunday Roasts to keep appetities properly sated during the colder months. Beef, Pork and Lamb will be served on rotation every Sunday between 12-7.30, allowing for a sedate start to the day, followed by the inevitable collapse onto the nearest sofa. We have put together the following suggestions from our drinks list to help you find the perfect match each week. Our wine list is always expanding and we try to think outside the box - so please give one of these a go and let us know what you think! Pork
  1. Secret Orchard Cider, £5. This refreshing craft cider from deepest Exmoor is a great match with pork and apple sauce.
  2. Arboleda Pinot Noir, Chile, £24.95. Really first class Pinot Noir from cool coastal Anconcagua. This has a strawberry and rose hip nose, an impressive silky sweetness and some smoky notes from barrel ageing. Chilean Pinot Noir is coming of age!
  3. Journeys End Haystack Chardonnay, South Africa, £16.45. Nicely rich and ripe with some tropical fruit and a drop of vanilla oak. Classic, full-bodied style and a white wine with enough clout to stand up to a roast dinner.
Lamb
  1. Fontodi Chianti Classico, Chianti, £26.95. Tuscan reds are a really classic match for lamb. Fontodi is one of the stars of the highly regarded DOCG area, and this is his stock in trade - simply superb Chianti Classico.
  2. Capezzana, Barco Reale, Tuscany, £18.95. Awesome value. The second wine from the super historic Capezzana Estate in Carmignano. Sangiovese plus some Cabernet - this seriously over-delivers for the price.
  3. Domaine Labranche-Laeffont, Madiran, £19.45. Madiran is in SW France close to Pau and is known for producing intense, full-bodied reds. Tannat is the local grape and here it gives this some nice ripe cassis and liquorice flavours, intense fruit and a hint of spice.
Beef
  1. Scala Dei, Black Slate, Priorat, £21.95. This is a rare chance to try the dense delights of Priorat at a reasonable price. There is a stony, smoky, dark intesity here that demands attention.
  2. Chateau Beynat, Bordeaux, £17.95. Super value for an organic Bordeaux; mid weight, raspberry fruit and some spice, lovely modern style.
  3. Benventano Aglianico, Vesevo, £16.95. Dark ripe fruit, liquorice and lovely soft fruit tannin. This is a great big mouthful of red and great value.
Enjoy! scarletwinematches
